The CAA South Central Ontario (CAASCO) Privacy Policy applies to the personally identified information that CAASCO collects, uses or discloses in the course of our activities, both online and offline. Details relating specifically to information collected on our web site can be found in the Internet Security & Privacy section therein. This Privacy Policy also provides direction on how to access or correct your personal information, make inquiries, voice your complaints and contact our Chief Privacy Officer for any privacy related matters.
CAA South Central Ontario and its subsidiaries, including CAA Travel (South Central Ontario) Inc., CAA Services (South Central Ontario) Inc., CAA South Central Ontario Insurance Brokers Inc., and CAA Insurance Company (Ontario) respect the privacy of your personally identifiable information.
CAA Insurance Company (Ontario) adopted the Insurance Bureau of Canada's Model Personal Information Code. The Code addresses two broad issues: the way P&C insurers collect, use, disclose and protect personal information; and the right of customers to have access to personal information about themselves and, if necessary, to have the information corrected.
This Privacy Policy is governed by the laws of the Province of Ontario and the laws of Canada applicable therein.
Personal information means information about an identifiable individual, but does not include business contact information.
If you become a member of CAASCO, we will ask you to provide certain personal information, including: your name and address (both of which must be provided), home and business phone numbers, payment information and information about all associate members from the same household. We also collect information about members' use of the products and services we provide.
Many of our products and services are available both to members and non-members. The personal information that we collect in providing these goods or services will vary. For example, provision of an insurance policy will require collection of more detailed, sensitive information such as date of birth, marital status, medical and health records, previous insurance experience including claims history, driver's licence number, and other information about your vehicle, driving record, and personal property.
CAASCO and its subsidiaries may collect your personal information from each other in accordance with this policy. It may also collect your personal information from third parties in accordance with this policy (for example, from a locksmith or tow truck operator who has provided services covered by your membership or from one of the Swipe & Save business partners to provide you with CAA Dollars).
CAASCO typically collects, uses and discloses your personal information to:
In addition, our insurance business collects, uses and discloses personal information to:
CAASCO may also share your personal information with third party vendors, suppliers, providers or agents who are responsible for administering or providing products and services on our behalf. We expect / contractually require these organizations to have policies regarding personally identifiable information consistent with our Privacy Policy or to abide by our Privacy Policy as relevant to the personal information shared with them.
We believe our members and other customers would also expect us to contact you to advise you of new and existing services and benefits that we offer (or that we and our partners jointly offer) and that may be of interest to you. In order to offer products and services that are relevant to you and to help us serve you better, we may review and analyze your use of our or our partners' products and services and also collect and analyze information from publicly available data for the same purposes.
Although we sometimes offer products and services jointly with our partners, these partners never have access to our list of Members and customers. Instead, the names, addresses and telephone numbers are transferred to a third party specialized in mailing list treatment, with which a data protection agreement has been signed beforehand.
We may also use and disclose your personal information in connection with any contemplated or actual sale or other disposal of all or part of our business or assets, including for the purposes of determining whether to proceed with such transaction or fulfilling any records or other reporting requirements to such parties. We will require that such parties treat your personal information in accordance with this Privacy Policy and to use and disclose it only for the purposes for which it was collected, including to provide the products, services or information that CAASCO would otherwise provide to you and generally to carry on the CAASCO businesses.
If CAASCO requests additional personal information or intends to use or disclose your personal information differently than described in this Privacy Policy, we will advise you at or before the time of collection, use or disclosure (as the case may be) as to how we will handle that personal information. However, CAASCO reserves the right at all times to collect use or disclose any information where required or permitted by law or regulatory authority to do so or to protect the legitimate interests of CAASCO, including for purposes of investigating potentially fraudulent insurance applications, renewals or claims.
If you choose to provide personal information to CAASCO, we assume that you consent to the collection, use and disclosure of your personal information as outlined in this Privacy Policy, as amended from time to time, or as described at the time of collection, use or disclosure as the case may be. Your consent may be express or implied, depending on the circumstances and the sensitivity of the personal information in question.
If you provide CAASCO with the personal information of other members of your household, for example, to obtain an associate membership for them, you confirm that they consent to our collection, use and disclosure of their personal information for the purposes outlined in this policy.
Subject to legal and contractual requirements, you can: (i) choose not to provide us with some, or all, of your personal information, or (ii) choose to "opt-out" of uses or disclosures of your personal information, such as direct mailing of products and services that we offer and/or those we offer jointly with our partners. If you wish to "opt-out", please complete an Opt-Out Form, visit one of our store locations or call our toll free number at 1-800-268-3750.
There are limited circumstances in which CAASCO may collect, use or disclose your personal information without your consent, for example to collect a debt owed to us, to comply with a subpoena or court order, or to comply with the rules of court regarding the production of records.
Only authorized CAASCO employees and agents who need your personal information will have access to it, unless access by others is authorized by this policy and the law. CAASCO takes precautions to protect your personal information against unauthorized access, use, alteration, duplication, destruction or disclosure. Such controls may include technological, physical and organizational methods of security, depending on the sensitivity and the format of the information. If you are transmitting personal information electronically, please review Internet Security & Privacy section therein.
CAASCO will destroy, erase or render anonymous personal information no longer required for the stated purposes or for a legal or legitimate business requirement.
