Not poor surface but poor design. Absolutely insane lane changes, merging traffic, poor signage, too little distance between on/off ramps, excessive speed. It's often nearly impossible to know which lane I need to be in. At least Toronto has designated lanes for through traffic; try that in Ottawa and you get tail-gated for travelling too slow. By way of comparison, Hwy. 81 through Syracuse has similarly poor design (narrow, curves, inadequate space for on and off ramps), but addresses the problem with good signage and a lowered speed limit.

Leitrim Road has a high volume of traffic that it was not designed for. It's a narrow, rough 2 lane road with no shoulder. It passes by the end of the run way of the Ottawa airport where vehicles go into the ditch in winter storms. The asphalt is breaking apart. School buses travel on it now that a new high school has opened. It's dangerous.

In my car the bumps give my suspension at work out too.The road is well travelled and deserves a resurface. This short section of road has a gravel surface, it is heavily used by local traffic also delivery trucks from a local gravel pit, school buses etc. It is rarely maintained and is full of potholes during the summer months. When it is maintained, it is never watered down or oiled, the dust, which is kicked up by the traffic, is phenomenal. We call ourselves an environmentally friendly country on one hand and paint the trees and plants and local animal life gray with dust on the other! People run, bike and walk this stretch of road and suffer the dust. As a driver of this road it won?t be long before someone gets hurt or run over, as you cannot see through the dust. I have lived here for 18 years and used the road everyday and watched the local community grow around and the usage of the road increase. It begs to be surfaced, and for the life of me I don?t understand why it hasn?t. For the environment sake and health of people lets spend some of the road funds on this little stretch of road, we have all paid enough taxes for this to happen.

This road is used by thousands of cars every day. This is a narrow treacherous road that twists and turns through some heavy wooded area, with no reflectors or lines marking the middle or sides of the road. There are no lights, or signs that show bends. There is no side walk or bike path even though it is used by cyclists and pedestrians. There are pots holes that get worse and are patched every year only to reappear in a few weeks. This road has not been resurfaced for years. There is an unguarded rail crossing that no one stops at any more even though there is a sign that says to stop before crossing, and since there is no shoulder on this road if a car breaks down it impedes traffic on this narrow winding road, and it makes it really dangersous when coming around a blind bend. It is really really hard to see at night, worse when there is fog or heavy rain or heavy snow, and there have been many occasions where cars slip off the road during winter storms. There are also a lot of deer that cross the road as there are wooded areas on both sides of the road, and hitting deer or other wildlife is common along this road. In some areas the trees are only 3 feet away from the edge of the road, and in some sections the edge of the road disappears into a pot hole. There are boulders close to the road and there is also a swamp along side a small section of the road with no guard rails. The boundaries of this road are not well defined. Coming from the third world country, this road reminds me of ill repaired, badly designed roads back home.

The shoulders of the road are falling away, so if you go off the shoulder, the car jerks back and into the opposite lane. The road is splitting, the shocks in your car take a beating each time you ride over the patches, there are holes which are gradually increasing in size. Driving down Queen Street in Ottawa, (located two blocks from Parliament Hill), is not only uncomfortable and slow, but embarrassing as well. The road is a mismatched quilt of rough ashphalt, potholes, patches and other rough repairs which dash any hope a driver may entertain of enjoying a comfortable commute. I drive it every day and can't believe that officials at the City of Ottawa are so blind to the pitiful condition of a major, downtown artery. In a city which hosts so many tourists every year, what does it take to make the condition of roads in its downtown core a priority???

Absolutely finished! This road requires resurfacing. It's especially difficult to drive from Feb to Apr when it's at it's roughest. Lucky if you can do 60 km anywhere. This is the main east west road for residents of Ottawa northwest. We have to drive on it whether we want to or not, we have no choice. It's grueling to say the least.

This is a road which connects N. Kanata hi tech area with the S. part of Terrry Fox and the 417. It is a gravel bush road, with many twists and turns and no shoulders to speak of, with a thin layer of ashphalt on top (and 100s of patches on this thin layer). The volume of traffic on this road is such that there are two 'rush' hours on it - am/pm. There have been numerous accidents on it due to its twisty layout and poor visibility. With new subdivisions being developed in the area the number is cars accessing this road is steadily increasing. If the City of Ottawa is planning ameliorate this situation any time in the near future, it is news to most of us in the area.

Each winter speed bumps rise out of the road on Flewellyn. The asphalt is so severely cracked, that driving down the road in the winter months is akin to skiing moguls. Each summer, the bumps smooth out again, but never quite as well as the year before, so the road is becoming increasingly lumpy. This past winter Flewellyn was so bad it was nearly impossible to drive more than 50km an hour. I had to change my route to work to save my car from expensive damage. This road is an alternate to Hwy 7 and has little traffic...but it's not much wonder why if motorists happen to travel it in the winter.

This road is the heavy and commercial vehicle access to the Ottawa Airport. Due to the YOW expansion this road has taken a beating from the construction vehicles that travel it. It is also one of the major access routes to the Albion road industrial area. This heavy traffic has lead the the potholing of the road to the point where the southbound lane you almost have to drive over the yellow line less the vehicle gets thrown into the oncoming lane by a pothole. Also the entrance to CFB Uplands at Breadner PVT is an accident site waiting to happen. Left turning vehicles usually have to stop in the flow of traffic as there is no Left turn lane, when the oncoming and following traffic are at the posted speed limit of 80KPH. This is also really sad when ALL dignitaries Such as Foreign Heads of state travel over this road to get down town in their motorcades, a good first impression of Canada.

Multiple areas that have been opened up for work and then covered over with patch that after a few hours leaves a pothole/ridge/trench in the pavement. This road was widened and improvements have been made within the last few years. The city was aware of the potential for development... why is it that this road is regularly dug up and then poorly patched?

Major pot holes leading to St. Laurent Shopping Center. Rain water builds up to the south side of the road where pedestrian sidewalk is located. The lines on the road are not that visible.

Potholes galore, ruts so bad that you can barely have a conversation with other passengers and so that you can't even drive the speed limit without losing control and driving off the road. The winter is going to be a nightmare, as it was horrible last year, and it just gets worse every year. They fixed the section between Bowesville and River Roads and that part is great, but the rest is almost undriveable...

There are so many rifts/cracks in the road on that stretch of the road that it makes going over 50km/h pretty hazardous and damaging to your car's suspension!
