Have a safe summer on the road.

With the snow and ice gone so too are the worries of winter driving conditions. However, even with warmest of temperatures and sunniest of skies there are driving precautions that all drivers should adhere to during the warm summer months. Here are few tips to keep in mind to keep you and your family safe.

Pack with Care

While many summer activities require large amounts of equipment and supplies, don't let these items block your view of the road. When packing the car make sure that you can see out of all windows to ensure full visibility.

If items must be placed outside of the vehicle make sure they are safely secured by using rope, bungee cords or a roof rack/cargo carrier. Furthermore, if carrying a large load slow down, nobody wants to be in or near a speeding vehicle full of equipment.

Arrive Alive

Its simple, if you drink don't drive. While summer is the time for BBQ's, picnics and outdoor patios it's never the time to get behind the wheel if you have been drinking. Make arrangements to have a designated driver or a cab drive you to your destination. Drinking and driving is never an option!

Stay Alert!

After being inside during the long winter month's cyclists, motorcyclists and children are eager to take advantage of the warm weather. With an increase in traffic and possible obstacles, drivers must be aware of their surroundings at all times. Make sure rearview, and side view mirrors are adjusted to their appropriate positions and keep windows clean and clear of any obstructions.

Safe Driving

Warm weather may mean better driving conditions, however regardless of the improved conditions, drivers should never consider speeding, tailgating or weaving in and out of traffic. It's these type behaviors that result in serious collisions, tickets and increased insurance premiums. Instead of taking risks, take your time and arrive at your destination by driving safely.

Buckle Up!

Make sure that passengers are wearing seat belts at all times. If you're traveling with a baby or child make sure they are seated in a properly installed car seat or booster seat.

Proper use of seatbelts, and car/booster seats are the most effective way to reduce vehicle related injuries and fatalities.

In Case of an Emergency

To ensure the safety of you and your family during road trips this summer, make sure you have the proper emergency equipment, such as a cell phone, an emergency car kit and roadside assistance.
