| Here
are some helpful hints to make your vacation a pleasant
and enjoyable experience.
- To beat jetlag, book an overnight flight or one
that arrives in the evening when travelling east so
you can either sleep on the flight or as soon as you
get to your destination.
- To prevent your feet from swelling on long flights
take a walk in the aisle at intervals and don’t take
off your shoes.
- Refrain from drinking alcoholic beverages on the
flight as alcohol causes dehydration. Drink lots of
water instead.
- Make special meal requests in
advance if you have any food restrictions.
- Security procedures have increased, so make sure
you arrive at the airport
2 – 3 hours prior to departure.
- For a smoother ride on the airplane, select seats
that are located near the wings so that if the plane
has turbulence, you will feel less motion.
If you are prone to motion sickness, take an anti
sickness pill 1 hour prior to the flight.
- If you suffer from ear pain while flying, take
a decongestant 1 hour prior to the flight.
- Allow plenty of time before travel for preventative
vaccinations – at least 2 –3 weeks.
- Always carry a sunscreen with an SPF of 15 or greater.
Use a mosquito repellent with DEET on exposed body
parts to try to avoid bites.
- Avoid bathing or swimming in fresh water ponds,
lakes, rivers or streams to avoid certain infections.
- Only drink bottled water.
- Don’t use ice cubes made from local tap water.
- Avoid fruits and vegetables, which can’t be peeled,
since they may have been washed in local tap water.
- Avoid eating garden salads as they may have been
washed in local tap water.
- If you plan to travel to high altitude destinations,
discuss this with your doctor.
- Carry your International Certificate of Vaccination
record with your passport.
