Your tour of this enchanting country begins in "The Eternal City" of Rome. You'll also visit the magnificent St. Peter's Basilica in Vatican City. Your tour will include highlights of classical Rome, such as Piazza Venezia, the Circus Maximus, the Colosseum, the Arch of Constantine and the famous Trevi Fountain.
  • Day 4: Rome: As the capital of Italy, Rome brings together the best of Italian food and wines. Join a local guide on an "epicurean" stroll through the elegant neighbourhoods around the Spanish Steps, where you will stop to taste top-quality Italian products. Enjoy some free time this afternoon to shop in the city's elegant boutiques or further explore the impressive cultural riches of Rome.
  • Day 5: Rome/Assisi/Florence: Language discovery: Today, your Tour Manager will help you discover the origin and history of the language(s) you will experience on your tour along with key words and phrases that will help you communicate with the locals. Travel north this morning through the Italian province of Umbria, known as the "Green Heart" of Italy because of its fertile farmland and historic villages. At the medieval town of Assisi, absorb the history and culture of the city made famous by Italy's Patron Saint and founder of the Franciscan order. Your walking tour includes the medieval old city and features the magnificent Basilica of St. Francis, with an excellent collection of frescoes. This afternoon your travels lead you to the Renaissance city of Florence.
  • Day 6: Florence: Your day in Florence begins with a guided walking tour of the city sights. You will view the Cathedral of Santa Maria Del Fiore, located in the religious center of the Piazza Del Duomo, Palazzo Vecchio, and the Church of Santa Croce, burial place of Michelangelo, Galileo and Machiavelli. After a few hours of free time to enjoy the city on your own, meet the Chef at one of Florence's foremost restaurants for a lesson on authentic Tuscan cooking. Afterwards, enjoy the sumptuous dinner you have created, expertly paired with wine from the area.
  • Day 7: Florence/San Marino/Venice: Today you visit one of the smallest countries in the world, the Republic of San Marino - only 23 square miles. Next, travel past the lagoons and rice-growing fields of the Po River en route to enchanting Venice, built on 117 islands with 150 canals and 400 bridges.
  • Day 8: Venice/Murano Island/Venice: Your day begins with a boat trip (weather permitting) to Murano Island for an up-close glass-making demonstration. Return by boat to charming St. Mark's Square, a hub of quintessentially Italian activity and events. A local guide provides a guided walking tour featuring the Clock Tower, with its famous Moors; St. Mark's Basilica; the Doges' Palace; and the famous Bridge of Sighs.
  • Day 9: Venice/Sirmione, Lake Garda/Milan, Malpensa: Depart Venice and drive to picturesque Lake Garda, in Italy's famous Lake District. Visit the charming lakeside town of Sirmione, described as "the gem of all the peninsulas." Stroll through its marvelous medieval center and admire the beautiful villas, historic churches, lush gardens and magnificent castle. Your next stop is at a nearby family owned winery where you will sample fine wines and local olive oils. This evening, gather for a farewell dinner celebrating the end of an unforgettable trip.
  • Day 10: Depart for Home: Your vacation to Italy comes to a close in Milan Malpensa.
