Arizona

Arizona Grand Canyon

Arizona contains some of the most spectacular scenery in the entire USA. One of the most impressive natural features in Arizona is the Grand Canyon, one of the seven natural wonders of the world. Visitors looking for a true taste of American history should venture to Arizona's High Country, which boasts everything from a wild west atmosphere to the storied Route 66. The Navajo and the Hopi American Indians reside in northern Arizona on lands that have a strong American Indian heritage while Tucson, in the south, features a number of cultural landmarks as well as skiing at Mount Lemmon.

The State of Arizona is located in the southwestern region of the USA. The capital and largest city is Phoenix, though Tucson, Mesa, Chandler, Glendale and Scottsdale are also popular with visitors. Arizona borders New Mexico, Utah, Nevada, California and Colorado and has a 626 kilometre international border with Mexico. Though famous primarily for the Grand Canyon, many other national forests, parks, monuments, and Indian reservations are located in Arizona.

Arizona is noted for its desert climate, exceptionally hot summers and mild winters, but the north features pine forests and mountain ranges with cooler weather than the lower deserts. Phoenix has been ranked the hottest city in the United States and one of the hottest in the world. The temperature in Phoenix often reaches at least 38°C, mostly between June and September. Most days are sunny, and rainfall is scarce, although visitors during July and September can expect thunderstorms caused by the humid air blowing in from the Gulf of California. Winters bring mild, sunny days, with occasional fog. Snow is a rarity, though frost is frequent during the winter.
