Connecticut

American history resonates strongly throughout Connecticut, with unique towns built upon layers of intriguing history. Gothic buildings, museums and intellectual nuances dominate New Haven, home to Yale University. Hartford, the capital city, boasts a rich literary history and was home to famous American writers Mark Twain and Harriet Beecher Stowe. It is also the home of the 37-acre Bushnell Park. Outside the cities are calm colonial villages set in a rural landscape, quietly hiding much of the nation's early history and an abundance of antique stores.

Connecticut is bordered by New York State, Massachusetts and Rhode Island. The state capital is Hartford, and the other major cities include New Haven, New London, New Britain, Norwich, Milford, Norwalk, Stamford, Waterbury, Danbury and Bridgeport. Connecticut is the third-smallest state in the US, though it has a regional variations in both landscape and culture, from rolling fields to wealthy estates and gorgeous mountains.

The Connecticut climate is moderate with relatively mild winters and warm summers. The coast features cooler summers and warmer winters while the northwestern highlands have longer, colder winters than the rest of the state with heavy snowfall. Rainfall is fairly evenly distributed throughout the year, though summers are prone to thunderstorms.
