CAA Bike Assist FAQ

Q:
Why are we offering Bike Assist?
A:

Ontarians are making a shift towards a greener lifestyle and choosing products and services that are socially responsible. Commuters are more responsible and many already use their bicycle as their main mode of transportation. Bike Assist helps CAA South Central Ontario (CAASCO) develop a relationship with a new niche of Members who are interested in CAASCO for reasons not related to the automobile.

Q:
What will the service time be?
A:

Service will be within the target 45 minutes unless specialized equipment is required, for example: tandem bicycles.

Q:
Where is service provided?
A:

Service is available anywhere in CAASCO territory on assumed roads only.

Q:
Can I apply for a refund if someone else transports my bicycle?
A:

We will not offer refunds unless we are contacted first and cannot provide the service.

Q:
Will drivers try to fix the bicycles?
A:

The drivers will do their best to get the cyclist on the go but if a repair cannot be made at the site of the breakdown the driver will tow the bicycle and transport the cyclist.

Q:
Do we unlock bicycles or cut securing devices?
A:

No, as the ownership of the bicycle cannot be verified.

Q:
Do we fix flats?
A:

Yes.

Q:
Is there an age limit of cyclists we can pick up?
A:

Only Members and their Associates are permitted to be towed.

Q:
Will we service underage children?
A:

Yes, but only if a parent/guardian is with the child.

Q:
Will we tow tricycles made for adults?
A:

Yes; however, they may require specialized equipment therefore longer service times may occur.

Q:
Do we cover motorized bicycles?
A:

Yes provided they are conventional bicycles with standard pedals and chain and mounted with an external electric geared motor. Motorcycles, electric scooters & mopeds are covered under Plus and Premiere memberships only.

Q:
If a Member is biking and is pulling one of those "wee-ride child bike seat trailers", is the Bike Assist able to service it as well? (If a tow is required, will the trailer be towed too?)
A:

We will not repair the trailer and we will attempt to transport it if possible; however, alternate arrangements may have to be made by the Member at their expense if we are unable to tow the trailer safely and securely.

Q:
Will we reimburse a CAASCO Member who is outside our territory and pays for bicycle assistance from a bike shop or other services?
A:

No, service is only provided within CAASCO territory.

Q:
Do we provide Bike Assist to Members located at cottages, dirt bike trails or Provincial Parks?
A:

Bike Assist is available anywhere we regularly provide ERS. We will pick up a rider and bicycle at the nearest point of accessibility, based on regular road access. We will not provide service to inaccessible areas such as parks, dirt bike trails, private or non-passable roads.
