Here’s a piece of trivia about this year’s Canadian National Exhibition (CNE): you can enter for your chance to win free gas for a year when you play a trivia game at one of two CAA booths.
Read on for details, plus other things to see and do at The Ex, which runs August 16 to September 2.
On August 29, some of Canada’s top comedians will take to the stage at Queen Elizabeth Theatre for the CNE’s first-ever night of comedy. Hosted by Seán Cullen, the show will feature comics Ali Hassan, Derek Seguin, Arthur Simeon and Joe Vu.
This year, the CNE will debut the Ex Race, an obstacle course inspired by the hit TV show American Ninja Warrior. To reach the end, competitors will have to negotiate cargo netting, a warped wall and a core-testing vertical challenge organizers call a “salmon ladder.”
In another first, the fair will host the travelling exhibition of National Geographic’s 50 Greatest Photographs. Pictures include Steve McCurry’s “Afghan Girl” and a haunting shot of the Titanic lying under 4,000 metres of sea water.
The CNE’s popular Gaming Garage returns for a third year with pinball machines, board games and an interactive virtual-reality setup. Video-game aficionados will also be able to sample a host of titles, including some not yet released to the public.
To mark the 65th anniversary of Ishiro Honda’s Godzilla, the monster movie that started it all, the CNE will debut a nine-metre-tall inflatable replica of cinema’s most famous giant reptile on the waterfront. Fair-goers can hop onto a canoe—for free—and snap a selfie with the King of the Monsters.
CAA will have two booths at this year’s CNE: one at Dufferin Gate and the other at Princes’ Gate. Visitors will be able to take part in a CNE-related game of trivia, with daily winners taking home a $100 CAA gift card. (Check out the digital leaderboard to see the top 10 scores each day.) A grand-prize winner, chosen through a random draw, will win free gas for a year.* Everyone who plays will receive a CAA lip balm.
During the two weeks of the CNE, CAA will also be offering an exclusive event deal: you’ll be able to get two CAA Basic Memberships for $99, along with a $10 fuel gift card.**
