Israel

Steeped in cross-cultural history, Israel is a popular tourist destination that surprises and awes visitors from around the globe, regardless of religious beliefs. Take in the ancient walled city of Jerusalem with its narrow streets and vibrant markets. Experience the pulsing nightlife of cosmopolitan Tel Aviv. Dive into the Red Sea from the resort town of Eilat in the south, or sample world-renowned wines in the Galilee region of the north. From mountains to the Dead Sea, from Mediterranean to desert, Israel's rich diversity offers something for everyone.

Located at the intersection of Europe, Asia and Africa, Israel is one of the most important countries in the Middle East. It is situated at the eastern end of the Mediterranean Sea, bordered by Egypt, Jordan, Syria and Lebanon. Its topographic features range from fertile mountains and scenic coastlines to incredible beaches and hauntingly beautiful desert. The river Jordan - Israel's only major river - flows from Lake Kinneret in the north to the lowest land elevation on earth, the Dead Sea, at over 400m below sea level.

The climate of Israel varies somewhat from north to south and season to season. In summer, a warm Mediterranean climate prevails in the north, while the south is more arid. In winter, northern regions see more precipitation. Temperatures range from 18 to 32°C over most of the country through the summer months. In winter, visitors can expect cooler temperatures ranging between 9 and 15°C. The Dead Sea area and the Rift Valley typically remain warmer than the rest of the nation year-round.
