Uganda

Uganda

Uganda is a magical microcosm of Africa. It is home to the continent's highest mountain range - and source of the Nile. It has the highest concentration of primates on Earth, including the rare and majestic mountain gorilla. And despite the incredible beauty and accessibility of Uganda's national parks, they are far less travelled and more pristine than those in many neighbouring countries. Since the death of dictator Idi Amin in 2003, stability has returned to most parts of the country and tourists are welcomed with broad smiles and open arms. Truly, Uganda is a stunning destination, packed with all the best adventures that Africa has to offer.

Uganda straddles the equator, about 800 kilometres inland from the Indian Ocean. Although landlocked, it does border Lake Victoria - the continent's largest lake - and the Sese Islands located in the lake lie within its borders. Sudan borders Uganda to the north; to the south, east and west, Uganda shares peaceful borders with Tanzania, Rwanda, Kenya and Zaire.

No matter what time of the year you choose to visit, expect to enjoy the perfect tropical climate. Daytime temperatures average about 26°C with evening temperatures dropping to a comfortable 16°C throughout much of the year. The hottest months to visit extend through North American winter - from December to February.
