Angelique Kanku truly believes in the safety and well-being of her students. And that’s why CAA South Central Ontario (CAA SCO) is honouring the elementary school teacher with the CAA School Safety Patrol Supervisor of the Year Award.

The purpose of the award is to recognize a Patrol Supervisor that demonstrates leadership qualities, safety skills, dedication, morale building and a desire to advance the educational and safety benefits of patrollers.

The Grade 6 teacher at Ecole Elementaire Catholique Jean-Robert Gauthier in Ottawa, has completed her first successful year with the CAA School Safety Patrol program and has already made a positive impact as a Patrol Supervisor. Currently, there are approximately 1,200 safety patrollers participating in the program in Ottawa.

“Angelique Kanku is a true mentor who is passionate about her students and the school safety patrol program. Kanku has done a tremendous job as a Patrol Supervisor. She has instilled leadership and safety in the patrollers at Ecole Elementaire Catholique Jean-Robert Gauthier,” said Albert Pasceri, Community Relations Specialist, CAA SCO.

Kanku meets regularly with the safety patrollers and reinforces all bus safety rules. She is responsible, hardworking and has a positive impact on the students, parents and all staff members all while ensuring the program is a success.

The CAA School Safety Patrol program is a joint effort between CAA, the police, school boards, teachers, parents and more than 20,000 dedicated student volunteers. Those involved give their time to ensure their peers remain safe at road crossings and on school buses throughout Ontario.

Over 800 schools in Ontario participate in the CAA School Safety Patrol program and CAA SCO partners with over 55 police services to deliver the program. For more information, visit www.caaschoolsafetypatrol.com.
