Kamla Wray April 19, 2016

CAA South Central Ontario is working with our Members and their families who are in, or travelling to the regions directly affected by the recent earthquakes in Ecuador and Japan.

TRAVELLERS TO ECUADOR

As a result of the 7.8-magnitude earthquake which struck off the northwestern coast of Ecuador on April 16th, 2016, Global Affairs Canada advises against non-essential travel to the provinces of Esmeraldas, Los Rios, Manabi, Satan Elena, Guayas and Santo Domingo. Canadians in Ecuador are warned to use a high degree of caution and be aware of their surroundings due to the current risk of aftershocks and the high levels of crime. We encourage our Members to monitor the Government of Canada’s travel advisory site for the most accurate and official travel information to the affected areas.

If you are in Ecuador and require emergency consular assistance, call the Canadian Embassy at (011 593 2) 2455-499, the Emergency Watch and Response Centre in Ottawa (613) 996-8885 or email: quito@international.gc.ca.

The Ministry of Tourism’s 911 app allows you to ask for help in the case of an emergency. It is available in English and can be installed on any smartphone.

As a result of the earthquakes which struck southern Japan, near the city of Kumamoto on April 14th and 16th, 2016, the Government of Canada advises Canadians to exercise normal security precautions and be aware of their surroundings due to the current risk of aftershocks.

CAA South Central Ontario encourages our Members to monitor the Government of Canada’s travel advisory site for the most accurate and official travel information to the affected areas.
