Family Day offers the perfect opportunity to spend time with the ones you love. Whether you are relaxing at home or looking to do something more adventurous, here are seven things you and your family can do together on Feb. 21.

Keep in mind that social-distancing measures and other health and safety protocols may be in place in public areas, so check before you head out.

Visit local parks

If you've got kids, you're probably at your neighbourhood park quite a bit. Change it up and visit a different one in your community or go park hopping and visit several.

Kids of all ages can toboggan at municipal-approved hills, skate at outdoor rinks or participate with friends in an outdoor scavenger hunt.

Go hiking

Hiking is good exercise for those of any age and ability. Layer up, grab some water and snacks and bring the whole family for a day on the trails.

Walk or run along the Trans Canada Trail—the world’s longest network of multi-use recreational trails. There are more than 28,000 km of paths linking 15,000 communities across the country.

Want to mix it up? Snow permitting, strap on some snowshoes or cross-country skis.

Get crafty

Bust out the craft supplies and create something fun with the kids. Build a balloon-propelled hovercraft with an old CD, tape, balloon and a water bottle cap.

Transform large cardboard boxes into race cars, paint canvases, forts and doll houses. Upcycle plastic containers into bird feeders. Add soap, water, glitter and trinkets to clear containers to create sensory jars or make tiny terrariums with rocks and twigs.

You can pick up craft kits from CAA Rewards® partners like Indigo, where Members can earn one percent in CAA Dollars® when ordering online.

Pre-plant prep

While it may not be warm yet, you can still give your flowers or vegetable garden a head start.

Place seeds, soil and a bit of water into tiny pots or paper cups and find them a sunny spot in your home. That way, the seeds will germinate and be ready when it’s time to plant.

Host a movie marathon

Hold your own movie screening and make it a red-carpet event with snacks, drinks and comfy blankets before dimming the lights.

Whip up a tasty treat

Whether you prefer your desserts sweet or savoury, baking is a fun way to spend time together. Indulge in an old family favourite or a new recipe that will delight your taste buds.

Or try a no-bake, child-friendy cookie recipe and have the little ones take the lead.

Order the necessary ingredients from INABUGGY, where Members save $10 with their online order.

Break out the board games

A chilly February afternoon is the perfect time to hunker down with a jigsaw puzzle and your family’s game collection. Shop at Puzzle Master for a wide selection of games and puzzles. Members can earn 10 percent in CAA Dollars with their online order.

Or have a dance off to your favourite tunes. Play Hot Potato, Simon Says, or dish out the cards for Go Fish or Crazy Eights.

Whether you try one, three or all of these activities this Family Day, CAA Rewards partners have you covered.
