My top travel picks.
Japan is a destination where you can enjoy beautiful scenery and experience rich culture from seeing tea ceremonies to visiting historic temples. You can also have the exciting big city life in Tokyo. It really is the best of both worlds. Here are some photos of my favourite spots. Take a look and let me know if they’ve inspired you to plan your own getaway! I’ll help you get there.
Located amidst the large buildings that make up bustling Tokyo, is the Imperial Palace, home to the Imperial family. The Imperial Palace East Garden is a lush green park area that is open to the public without reservations.
Insider tip: You will want to wear a pair of comfortable walking shoes as you discover the beautiful outer grounds within the walls of the historic palace. If you want to see inside, plan your trip carefully. The inner palace grounds where the Imperial Family live are only open to the public a couple days out of the year.
While Japan has bustling ultra-modern cities like Tokyo, two thirds of the country is actually covered by forested mountains and rolling hills. One of my favourite places in Japan is Mount Fuji. The iconic Japanese landmark is a UNESCO World Heritage site.
Insider tip: You can only climb Mount Fuji when the weather is cooperating, between July and mid-September. Buses from Shinjuku will take you about halfway up the mountain, and you can hike to the summit from there.
The Panama Canal.
The famous Panama Canal was one of the engineering marvels of the world when it was first opened in 1914. Today, it is still an incredible sight to see as freighter ships and smaller crafts alike traverse between the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans.
Insider tip: While in Panama City, be sure to drop by the Miraflores Visitor Center. It is a museum dedicated to the history and creation of the canal. Along with photographs and artefacts, there is also a 3D movie, putting you right in the heart of the action.
