Is pet insurance worthwhile?

If you have pets, words alone likely do not describe your feelings towards them. Pets are loyal and compassionate. They are there for you when you need them and can cheer you up even when you're upset. You love your pets and they love you in return, unconditionally.

As a result, it should come as no surprise that pet owners are spending more each year on sophisticated care to give their animals additional comfort as they age. In fact, procedures such as MRI's, CT scans and endoscopies have become increasingly commonplace in the veterinary world to diagnose certain conditions. Similar to other medical fields, veterinary care continues to improve and advance.

However, all of these improvements come at a definite cost and it's a burden that falls into the hands of the pet owner. Having insurance coverage for your dog or cat can spare you a financial burden if disaster strikes. It can spare you the emotional agony of having to deny your pet quality medical care due to lack of funds.

There are numerous examples of people who have avoided financial burden by having pet insurance. Serious ailments such as cancer can be expensive propositions for pet owners and costs can quickly rise into the thousands. Pet insurance can be a huge expense saver and should at least be considered by all pet owners.

Nevertheless, pet insurance isn't for everyone. Depending on the previous medical history of your pet and the propensity for your pet's breed to contract illness, pet insurance may or may not be right for you. It is important to note that, just as treatment costs vary from one person to another, so do medical costs for your pet.
