After breakfast at the Viking Museum and rejuvenation in the Blue Lagoon, tour Reykjavík and the legendary Saga Valley. Wander through fishing towns, explore historic sites and ascend to the place where tectonic plates converge with a volcanic crater. Learn about Vikings, trolls, Icelandic horses, puffins and seals from a fjord cruise and glacial lagoon. Stroll jet-black beaches, visit a geothermal greenhouse and marvel at towering falls. Shop for woolens, sample hot spring-baked rye bread or try hákarl, the national dish of fermented shark. End your days over mugs of hot chocolate while scanning the skies for the swirling beauty of the aurora borealis.

Day 1

Begin your journey with an overnight flight to Reykjavik

Day 2

Reykjavik − Welcome to Reykjavik. Refresh after the long flight with breakfast at the Viking Museum. Continue to the Blue Lagoon for a soak in its warm geothermal water B

Day 3

Borgarnes − City tour of Reykjavik. Travel west to Borgarfjörður (Saga Valley) for a chance to climb the Grabrok Crater. Visit Deildartunguhver, Europe’s most powerful hot springs. This afternoon attend a lecture about northern lights. After dinner, step into the hotel garden in search of the aurora borealis B/R

Day 4

Borgarnes – Explore the Snæfellsnes Peninsula. Cruise the Breiðafjörður Fjord and taste Hákarl. On the way back to Borgarnes, your guide gives you tips on how to photograph the aurora borealis. In the evening, continue the search for the northern lights B/L/R

Day 5

Flúðir – Explore the Golden Circle and taste freshly baked hot-spring bread, geothermally boiled eggs and herring. Afternoon visit to an Icelandic Horse farm and geothermal greenhouse. This evening, search for northern lights B/R

Day 6

Kirkjubæjarklaustur – Learn about geology and active volcanoes at the LAVA Centre. See the Skógafoss and stroll the black sand beach in Reynisfjara. Northern lights watching this evening B/R

Day 7

Kirkjubæjarklaustur − Today is all about glaciers, ice and icebergs. Travel to Jökulsárlón, a glacial lagoon filled with floating icebergs. Continue to the black sandy beach where large icebergs get stranded. Visit Europe’s largest National Park and Europe’s largest glacier. Tonight, a film presentation and another chance to see the northern lights B/R

Day 8

Reykjavik – Photo opportunities today at the village of Vik and at the Seljalandsfoss. Evening farewell dinner followed by one last nocturnal tour to seek the northern lights B/D

Day 9

Return flight to Canada B
