Why not hit the road to New Mexico and discover a cyclist’s paradise? The Turquoise Trail, a national scenic byway connecting Albuquerque, New Mexico, and Santa Fe, is full of historic Old West charm, unique shops and galleries, and the truly spectacular Sandia Mountains.

The old mining town of Madrid has been transformed into a funky little town rich with art and culture. The Old Coal Mine Museum provides visitors with a look at equipment and artifacts from the bygone bustling mining years. Visit the famous Mine Shaft Tavern, recognized as one of the last great roadhouses serving authentic New Mexican cuisine. Cerrillos is said to be the turquoise capital of the area and is still being mined today.

Be sure to stop at the Turquoise Mining Museum and Petting Zoo for a closer look into the turquoise mining history. Also, explore the Cerrillos Hills State Park for great hiking and additional cycling trails.

Suggested stops while visiting the Turquoise Trail: Tinkertown Museum and Sandia Park Aerial Tramway.
