Spanning over 7,000 km2, the park offers something for every nature lover to see and enjoy. Check out our daily itineraries below or give us a call and we'll plan a park experience tailored just for you.

Itinerary

Day 1

Make your first stop the Algonquin Visitor Centre to learn more about Ontario’s first provincial park. From there, wander through the Algonquin Logging Museum's outdoor exhibits to get a feel for the early timber trade and modern forestry management.

The Algonquin Art Centre would be the perfect next stop. The Centre includes a gallery featuring many of Canada’s renowned wilderness and wildlife artists and is not to be missed.

Be sure give yourself time to shop at the park's boutique. You'll love browsing through a wide selection of Canadian-made, eco-friendly souvenirs.

Day 2

No trip to Algonquin would be complete without taking time for a canoe trip.

An expert guide will teach you all the basic canoeing skills you'll need to enjoy The Daily Group Paddle Day Trip. This six-hour guided adventure takes you into the more hidden and secluded corners of the park on historic Canoe Lake. You'll cross an easy portage and then enjoy a lakeside meal. If you dare, you can even try cliff jumping! Your journey will conclude with a short hike to a panoramic lookout and a stop to pick seasonal wild berries.

For a more relaxing form of canoeing, upgrade to the Guided VIP Electric Canoe Day Trip. Your three-hour journey will follow in the footsteps of one of Canada’s greatest painters, Tom Thomson. Included is a visit to the Thomson cairn and local ruins, a scenic picnic and a chance to cool off at a secluded swimming area.

Day 3

Start your day with a Canadian Signature Experience – paddling the Madawaska River on a two-hour rafting trip. This excursion is a great introduction to the whitewater experience for all ages, even for kids as young as age two.

Enjoy a bite at the Riverside Café before or after your trip. The shop offers ice-cream, hot Panini sandwiches or home baked pastries. Get energized for the rest of the day with a local favourite – freshly roasted Madawaska Coffee.

Up next, take a hike in the Barron Canyon, one of Algonquin’s lesser visited trails. The canyon walls rise 100 metres along the sides of the Barron River, which is also popular for canoeing. This north rim trail is a 1.5 kilometre loop that provides beautiful views over the water and forest.

Day 4

As you say goodbye to Algonquin (for now) take a quick hike at Smoke Lake on the Hardwood Lookout Trail. Located at kilometer 13.8 of Highway 60, the hike should take you less than an hour to complete.

  • Barron Canyon: Located near Achray about an hour from Pembrooke, we recommend a hike that will take you through a more remote area of the park and offers stunning views of the canyon.
  • The Hardwood Lookout Trail: This one-kilometre looped trail is the perfect short jaunt. If you're pressed for time, walk the trail in a clockwise direction to get to the lookout faster where your hike will end with an incredible view of Smoke Lake.
