Insurance

At CAA we know that having the proper travel insurance coverage when the need arises is important to you and your family. With CAA's Emergency Travel & Medical Insurance you receive extensive benefits to help protect you against the high costs of an unforeseen medical emergency (certain conditions, limitation and exclusions apply).

When you consider that Canadian Government Health Insurance Plans severely limit the amount of coverage outside Canada… OHIP only covers up to a maximum of $400 CAD per day… travelling without proper insurance is taking a risk that could lead to a catastrophic long-term financial burden in the event of a medical emergency. For example,

Motor Vehicle Accident – Two-Week Florida Vacation

6 Week Hospitalization $442,429
OHIP Covered $9,192
Patient Responsible For $433,237

In the absence of travel insurance, the patient is held personally responsible for paying the medical costs incurred, and in the above example Emergency Medical Insurance costing $41.30* would have covered the amount in excess of OHIP.
* premium based on healthiest traveller rate (age 56 - 14 days coverage)

It is for this reason that travel insurance is such an essential part of your travel arrangements… to avoid the financial devastation of an unexpected illness or injury and to protect the financial security of you and your family.

Some things to consider when purchasing your travel insurance policy…
What type of policy should you purchase: Emergency Medical Insurance?, Trip Cancellation and Interruption?, or a package policy that bundles Emergency Medical with Trip Cancellation and Interruption, Baggage and Travel Accident insurance? If you have prepaid travel arrangements, a package policy will provide you with the best protection at the most affordable price.

Also consider how frequently you travel. For those travelling once a year a single trip plan is your best option. If you travel two or more times a year, consider an annual plan that covers any number of trips during the policy year. Convenient top-up coverage is also available for the Emergency Travel & Medical Insurance (only) to extend annual plan days for those longer trips you might take.
