Drive Time From Toronto: Approximately eight hours
Why Go: Whatever your taste in music, you’re likely to find something in NYC to keep your feet tapping every night of the week, from Broadway to cutting-edge rock. Webster Hall offers a range of quality acts, and if you’re in the mood for jazz, Blue Note in Greenwich Village attracts some of the city’s best performers. Or book a show at the renowned Radio City Music Hall in Rockefeller Center.
Where to Stay: Surrounded by Broadway theatres and a short walk from Radio City Music Hall, Hilton Times Square is in the middle of it all. The hotel itself rises to 44 storeys, but some of the best views of Manhattan are from the Restaurant Above on the 21st floor.
Drive Time From Toronto: Approximately two hours
Why Go: Sometimes you need a break from the city, even just for a few days. Niagara-on-the-Lake, where wineries and wellness centres abound, is the perfect go-to. You can spend the day doing restorative yoga at a collection of local studios (Fox Den Yoga even offers goat yoga!), book a massage and body wrap at one of the many spas or play golf at Royal Niagara Golf Club. And hey, you’re in wine country, so you may as well explore some of the nearby vineyards.
Where to Stay: Surrounded by six acres of garden, the conveniently located Hilton Garden Inn is a 15-minute drive to both Niagara Falls and downtown Niagara-on-the-Lake, minutes away from the golf club and close to many wineries, including Peller Estates and Ravine Vineyard Estate Winery.
Drive Time From Toronto: Approximately eight and a half hours
Why Go: Well, this one’s a no-brainer. In a city that’s home to the Bruins, the Red Sox and the Celtics, no matter what season you visit, you will be in sports heaven. When you’re not cheering on your favourite team, check out some of the many sports bars downtown; The Fours Restaurant and Sports Bar or Warehouse Bar & Grille are safe bets for burgers, beer and tons of televisions to catch the game. And, of course, don’t miss a visit to The Sports Museum in the TD Garden.
Where to Stay: Find the four-star Hilton Boston Downtown/Faneuil Hall in the heart of the city in a 1920s Art Deco skyscraper. You’ll be a 20-minute walk from TD Garden and only a block from the waterfront.
Drive Time From Toronto: Approximately six hours
Why Go: Love food? Montreal needs to be on your to-do list. From Chuck Hughes’s renowned Garde Manger and Le Bremner in the Old Port (make reservations well in advance) to the incredibly delicious, seasonally focused menu at Griffintown’s HVOR (order the multi-course tasting menu with wine pairings), this is the place to treat your palate—even if only to try one of La Banquise’s nearly 30 poutines.
Where to Stay: The Hilton Garden Inn Montreal Centre-Ville (complete with indoor rooftop pool) is about a 30-minute walk from the Old Port, Saint-Laurent—where you’ll find Schwartz’s smoked meat—and, for all your picnic pleasures, Mont Royal Park.
