Spend the day discovering what’s in your own backyard – from farmers’ markets and apple orchards to winding wooded trails and sparkling waterfalls.

Itinerary

Day 1

Start by heading towards Georgetown, a quaint and friendly community with a bustling downtown filled with bakeries and cheese shops. If you’re planning a picnic, be sure to visit their Saturday farmer’s market before 12:30 p.m. closing time.

From Georgetown, meander towards Scotsdale Heritage Farm on the Niagara Escarpment. The farm spans over 531 acres and is home to heritage buildings and barns, ecologically sensitive forests, unique wetlands and evidence of indigenous settlements. The Bruce Trail and the Bennett Heritage Trail cross the property, giving you a starting point for an easy 6 km hike.

A short ride from there is Andrews Scenic Acres, a must-stop for stocking up on fall produce and butter tarts for the road. Don’t miss Andrews Farm and Winery, which produces quality wines from fruit grown on the farm.

Next, if apple picking is on your list of things to do in Ontario, there are two great options in Milton. Visit either Chudleigh’s or Wheelbarrow Orchards and plan on baking some apple pies when you get home.

Getting thirsty? There are many breweries in the area. Milton’s Orange Snail Brewers is a great spot to pick up some crafted brews to enjoy at home.

Next stop: the Hilton Falls Conservation area. Here you can take a scenic hike along the Hilton Falls Trail, a park trail that leads to a stunning 10-metre waterfall and mysterious 19th century mill ruins. Afterwards, choose to head home or plan to have a picnic in the conservation area.
