Whether you love the great outdoors or prefer to stay warm and cozy inside, the Highlands offers wonderful one-of-a-kind experiences, come winter.

Itinerary

Day 1

Head towards the Highlands and prepare to discover a winter wonderland. Depending on how much time you have, we recommend one or two nights in Haliburton Forest. With 100,000 acres and 100 lakes, there’s so much fun to experience here. Take a snowshoe hike, try ice climbing or join a glass-blowing workshop with a local artist.

Day 2

Haliburton Forest is fun to visit year-round, but you can only experience a half-day or full-day dog sledding adventure in the winter. Prefer a different kind of excitement? Spend the day ice-fishing with a guide, rent a snowmobile and explore the network of trails, or learn about wild wolves in the Wolf Centre.

Day 3

Head south towards Peterborough and The Kawarthas to Elmhirst’s Resort. Explore the property on a sleigh ride, go ice-fishing, or charter a flight and soar over the frozen lakes. Be sure to leave time to enjoy some pampering at the resort’s spa.

Day 4

Return home, but not before stocking up on the Kawartha region’s famous butter tarts!

  • Haliburton Forest Wolf Centre: This Canadian Signature Experience is located on a seven-acre conservation area, where a pack of wild wolves roam free. There are two observation areas, a museum, guided tours and even hear live wolf howls if you’re lucky. Be sure to book early so you don’t miss this one-of-a-kind wildlife encounter.
