Itinerary

Day 1

Begin your adventure in Sault Ste. Marie. On your way, stop in Gravenhurst in the Muskoka Lakes region. Explore the Bethune Memorial House National Historic Site or embark on a Muskoka Lakes Steamship Cruise for a front-row view of gorgeous waterfront estates.

Day 2

Continue towards Sault Ste. Marie, taking time to explore the town. Walk along St. Mary’s River, marvel at the open-air installations and visit the waterfront pavilion dedicated to Roberta Bondar, the first Canadian woman in space. Additional unique stops include the Bush Plane Heritage Centre and the Art Gallery of Algoma.

Day 3

Take time to discover Agawa Canyon Park today—we highly recommend taking the Agawa Canyon Tour Train. This wilderness excursion transports you 114 miles north over towering trestles, alongside pristine northern lakes and rivers and through granite rock formations and vast forests showcasing brilliant autumn colours.

Day 4

Begin your return journey home. Stop in Sudbury and visit Science North, an interactive science museum, or take a photo with the Big Nickel. Stay overnight here or continue on to another area of Muskoka or Haliburton before heading home.

Hidden Gems

Pins on a map
  • Agawa Canyon Wilderness Park: Located at Mile 114, this magnificent park is only accessible by rail. Here you’ll find numerous trails catering to different fitness levels. Follow one and admire the same views that were painted by several members of Canada’s Group of Seven.
  • The Crack: This famous rock outcropping in Killarney Provincial Park is a great hiking destination. The 7.1 km hike is considered moderate, though the last part is rated difficult as you will have to climb up rocks to reach the top. For the avid hiker, the views in the autumn are well worth the climb.
