From Caledon to Elora to St. Jacobs, enjoy an itinerary that includes geological and natural wonders along with specialty shopping at local area markets.

Itinerary

Day 1

Start the day by travelling to Caledon to see the Mars-like landscape of the Cheltenham Badlands. The unique topography of exposed Queenston shale is a Provincial Earth Sciences Area of Natural and Scientific Interest and considered one of the best examples of "badlands topography" in Ontario.

Before you leave the area, stop by the Spirit Tree Estate Cidery for lunch or to pick up some local ciders to enjoy later.

Continue to the Elora Gorge Conservation Area to go tubing down the Grand River. It's a great way to see the towering cliffs of the Elora Gorge as well as being a refreshing ride on a hot summer day. Either return home or plan to stay for the night in Elora or nearby in Cambridge.

Day 2

While you’re in the region, be sure to stop at St. Jacobs Farmers' Market and Flea Market. Hundreds of vendors offer a wide selection of organic produce, antiques, pantry essentials, wines and much more.

Hidden Gems

  • Cheltenham Badlands: Arrive early to avoid the crowds and be sure to stick to the trails in order to preserve the delicate landscape.
  • Tubing at the Elora Gorge Conservation Area: This tubing adventure lasts for about 1.5 hours. Head out early in the morning if you want to beat the rush. Tubers should also be mindful that the river gets low in some areas.
  • St. Jacobs Market District: Be sure to have space and a cooler for all the homemade treats you’ll want to pick up in St. Jacobs. You’ll also want to leave a little extra time for the antique market so you can hunt for treasures.
