Pervasively neutral Switzerland offers so much more than precision clockwork, secretive bank accounts and direct democracy. Breathtaking mountains, gorgeous lakes and unspoiled nature fuse with picturesque villages, cosmopolitan cities, cutting-edge design and incredible hospitality to create a dream destination for travellers. From skiing in the Alps to exploring the historic urban centres, Switzerland is much more than just a winter paradise.

With a population of just 7.5 million and a land area of just 41,285 square kilometres, Switzerland lies nestled in the heart of continental Europe. It shares its borders with Germany, France, Italy, Austria and Liechtenstein and, as one would expect, it is also one of the most culturally diverse countries in all of Europe. The Alps encircle the country, offering visitors sensational views in almost every direction.

As a result of its geographic location, the temperature in Switzerland is moderate and has no extremes of hot and cold, making it a perfect destination any time of the year. Summers are warm and generally range from 15°C to 30°C. January temperatures are slightly warmer than in Ontario, ranging from -10°C to 5°C. For skiers, resorts open in late November and remain open until the snow begins to melt in April.
