What is Maple Virtual Care?

Maple is a new benefit we’re providing to CAA Members. It’s yet another way we’re helping keep Members safe and ready to enjoy all of life’s adventures.

Through this online health care platform, you and your dependents can consult with a general practitioner in minutes on the phone, by secure message or video. No appointments are necessary and you can get a diagnosis, prescription, medical notes, specialist referrals and lab requisitions in minutes.

While physicians on Maple can help with many common medical requests, the service is intended to compliment the care you receive from your family physician. You can access this service from the road, at home or even abroad. Maple strongly advocates for all patients to have a relationship with a family doctor. Maple can act as a helpful stopgap for those that do not have one, and for those that do, Maple can help provide a way to manage urgent primary care issues that arise when you cannot get in to see your family general practitioner.

Maple Virtual Care FAQs

Maple is safe and effective for common, non-emergency issues.

If you believe you are experiencing an emergency, please call 911 or proceed to your nearest emergency room.

No. While general practitioners on Maple can help with many common medical requests, the service is not intended to replace the care of a family physician. Maple strongly advocates for all patients to have a relationship with a family doctor. Maple can act as a helpful stopgap for those that do not have one, and for those that do, Maple can help provide a way to manage urgent primary care issues that arise when you cannot get in to see your family general practitioner. Since this is a privately paid service, there are no negative impacts to your family doctors billings.
Maple doctors and nurse practitioners can treat many conditions virtually, including but not limited to: abrasions, acne, allergies, bacterial vaginosis, bites and stings, body aches, bronchitis, bruises, cough, dehydration, diarrhea, earache, erectile dysfunction, fever, flu, frostbite, headaches and migraines, hives, insomnia, itchy eyes, lice, medication refills, mild lacerations, nasal congestion, nausea, pinkeye, respiratory infections, sexually transmitted infections, sinus infections, skin infections, sore throat, sprains and strains, travel medications, urinary tract infections, vomiting, yeast infections and many more. Not all conditions can be treated virtually, and you may be referred to in-person care for various reasons.
Maple physicians can prescribe medications during your consultation. Once you accept a prescription, you’ll have the option to pick it up from any pharmacy in Canada or we’ll deliver it right to your door at no additional cost.
Maple is not intended for medical emergencies. If you believe you are experiencing an emergency, please call 911 or proceed to your nearest emergency room. If you require narcotics or controlled medications, our physicians cannot legally prescribe these on Maple.
Yes. Think of Maple as the connecting platform between you and general practitioners. Just like an in-person visit, the general practitioner is responsible for assessing your situation, understanding your medical history, asking you questions about your symptoms and providing treatment accordingly. If the general practitioner is not able to help on Maple, they will let you know to visit a clinic or a hospital instead.
The Maple Member benefit is available to CAA South Central Ontario Members. If your household has more than one membership, only one Member can register for Maple. The Primary or Associate Member can create an account and add any eligible dependents to share coverage. Coverage is based on the highest membership level within your home. Eligible dependents are anyone in your household who is either a spouse, a child under 18, or an elderly dependent for whom you have power of attorney for medical decision-making. This also could include children between the ages of 18-25, if they are still considered a dependent for health benefits purposes and they live in the household. To share coverage with your family, you’ll need to register for your Maple account at getmaple.ca/caa, or login if you have an existing account. If your dependent is <18, add their details to your “patient profiles” tab – you can then access care on their behalf within your account. Dependents aged 18 or older can benefit from your Maple coverage via their own account (spouse, common-law partner, or child living in the home). For dependents 18+, go to your “coverage” tab and send them an email invitation to create their own account.
